What is Control Groups (cgroups)?

Control groups (cgroups) are a Linux kernel feature that limits, accounts for, and isolates the resource usage (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network) of process groups. In containers, cgroups are used to prevent a container from consuming excessive resources and impacting other containers or the host.
